rendering lilly now...have to re-do the font I think...this poster all over is too 'pleasant' for a new orleans strip joint ~_~ darnit!

vegetarian cooking class

I took a vegetarian cooking class by Zel and Reuben Allen from Vegetarians in Paradise a few days ago. One of the items that I really liked on the menu was the peachy coconut soup! It's a cold soup that is a bit sweet but not the kind of sweet that wears your taste buds out and makes you not want to eat it again! :) so here it is!!

I really wanna get more into cooking, particularly in the vegan and vegetarian area. I really hope that in doing that, my stomach will allow me to have more guilty pleasures like this wonderful cold soup!!

Look forward to more cooking pics and such!! I also took a bookmaking class so--going to post that up here soon too!

anime expo 2012 cosplay

I decided to improve my momohime cosplay from halloween/pmx--unfortunately I didn't take the time to take a photo of it myself. However, my photo was taken by Oscar and featured on Giant Robot! Kudos to you mister! I didn't really think my poses through >A< but nevertheless, I feel like all the effort my mom and I put into the costume really paid off.

photo by Oscar Rios from Giant Robot
My mom sewed the kimono with the obi and bow. I sprayed and hand painted the flowers on the sleeve, obi, and bow (which you can't really see). I also did the shoulder armor, gauntlets, sword, socks, flower hairpiece, and hair comb.

I ended up doing a lot of things last minute like starting over my on my sword three days before the convention (which made a HUGE difference) aaand assembling the shoulder pad things the night before the convention. =A= ohh mann...it really felt like week 7 at art center haha

but I really thought nothing of it as I dragged myself there on Friday with pretty much only 2 hours of sleep under my belt. 2 hours of sleep does not make you a very happy cosplayer e__e
I got so many compliments and pictures---it's been a while since I've cosplayed.  All of that really makes me want to do it even more and get better at it. Before, it really mattered to me that people took photos but this time, I did it just for myself and I found that I was way happier doing that!

but arg!! I also have to think about school too and practicing to get better at that as well. =_= I feel so divided! I don't know what to do!!

I also saw Akusesu cosplaying Elsword along with all the other characters from the same game and I was just blown away!! I really look up to her and several others ( like camilliette and her crew!). It's so surreal to meet/see them in person because I honestly feel like I'm talking to a celebrity >3< I still get nervous and don't really know what to say TAT

Phantom 309 wip

colorizing the Phantom 309 pic in my previous post ;_; omg i'm SOOOOO FREAKING SLOW--that corner took more time than I anticipated (*cough 3 or 4 hours cough*)

I feel a little foolish for putting a lot on my plate especially because I now have a big side project with a looming deadline =_= owalsjfl;asjflkj
but anyhoo--I hope I can use this in my portfolio (minus the angry octopus) once I finish-
See you in t-20 hours!

----------

Hi guys! here's another update-- I'll just continue on the same post whenever I do wips so that it's more organized :D
anyhow...around 5:30am, my tablet totally gave out-I tried to keep it plugged into the tablet with rubber bands-I was wiggling the cord too much in there and broke the port ;_; it's kind of unfortunate that this humongo tablet won't work just because of that really small port thingy. I'm hoping some of the people in the student store/ wacom customer service could provide me with some repair information.

but anyways...crappy wacom 1 tablet to the rescue! with absolutely no pressure sensitivity! That proved to be minimally detrimental though--still (sort of) finished it

so--down to business: here's the first pass. Honestly everything in the middle ground and background is too vibrant and the hierarchy between values isn't as obvious as my value break up. I'm getting too distracted by everything in the foreground. The food on the counter is beginning to look like it's a part of the floor too @_@. Dem lemons in the iced tea are so yellow, it's almost as if they were picked off a radioactive lemon tree. So those are some things on my list to fix.

As for additions, I need to add the 'push' sticker on the door, the poster on the side of the entrance, texture to the floor, and then add the 'today's special' thing in the bottom right corner of the foreground.

But I really did want green in the foreground, yellow orange in the middle ground, and a blue violet for the background.

first real pass with all the whistles and bells--i'm so sick of looking at this =_=

What have I been up to?

So it says that my last art post (before the previous one I just posted) was back in December of 2011
Here are just some of the highlights of the things I did for the past 6 months

father's day card for the padre-guess we fished up something worse than the lockness monster. it's the aquatic bigfoot!! (or bigfin/flippers)

Color and Story: Narrative triptych- the story was supposed to be inspired by our choice of image from the ones our instructor gave us. The story of our triptych didn't have to match or continue story the image but just be inspired by it. When my instructor saw my sketches for my triptych, he said"....well.....I didn't expect this." haha. The story is of a mafia boss (who is also a granny) who cuts off her henchmen's fingers whenever they do something wrong. She bakes them into a batch of cupcakes and gives it to the police as a prank.

Color and Story: Leo, Holly, and Job following Ayesha to the Pillar of Fire (She by H. Rider Haggard)

Effie Trinket
Inventive Character: designed a few characters from The Hunger Games

45 rpm album cover for Dewey Cox and Darlene Madison's "Let's Duet". Dewey Cox Walk Hard was so damn Hillarious, I advise everyone to go see it (except for children and teenagers with no sense of humor)(beware: it is rated R for a reason)

soo yeah! I have been having fun discovering what I can do :) I am beginning to love working digitally!

Phantom 309

Hi guys! It's been a while!!

so I was a little reluctant to keep posting here because all of my wip stuff is on tumblr but I am going to push myself to update this blog now instead of tumblr!!

yeahhh
so this is for graphic design for entertainment class
we were supposed to design a layout illustrating one of the scenes from the song "Phantom 309" by Red Sovine.
This is just the value breakup for my layout. I know there's a few things that I have to changeo n the left side because the values are beginning to spill into one another with the food on the counter (haha...no pun intended)--but I just want to hear what my instructor has to say before doing anything

I was influenced by Lou Romano's style when working on this piece. He worked on the Powerpuff Girls, The Incredibles, Monster's Inc. and so much more!! I also found out he did a bit of voice acting in the films he designed for. That is just the icing on the cake for me!! I totally wanna do that too!!
Anyhow-- I am most definitely a fan or his work and I hope I can do him justice when I finish this.
